BOX SCORE vs. Pratt | BOX SCORE vs. Wells | BOX SCORE Wells/PrattGWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- In their second home tri-match of the season, Gwynedd Mercy came away empty with two defeats on Saturday, falling 3-0 to both Pratt and Wells.
In the day's first match, the Griffins (5-11) dropped a 25-17, 27-25, 25-19 decision to the Cannoneers. GM got five kills five aces and seven digs from sophomore
Kasey Loring (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) . Junior
Brianna Greer (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) chipped in four aces, two blocks (one solo) along with two kills.
Alice Vicente tallied 18 kills and 21 digs, both match-highs, along with five service aces.
Trailing 9-6 in the first set, Pratt fired back with six-straight points and nine of the next 12 to take a four-point advantage. GM would keep pace and get it to 19-17, but the Cannoneers scored the next six points to win set one. The second set saw no team lead by more than three points. Gwynedd had a chance to win, leading 24-23 and with the serve, but a kill from Vicente kept Pratt alive. The third set was a parallel to the first, as GM rallied from a 16-12 deficit to take a 19-17 lead but Vicente served up two aces and added a kill as part of the next eight points to clinch it.
Against Wells (25-14, 25-15, 25-13), the Griffins had trouble settling in, hitting in the negative for two of the three sets and overall as a team (14-21-94). Sophomore
Laura Kirk (Saegertown, Pa./Maplewood)Â totaled seven kills and chipped in 14 digs, both team highs.
The Express (10-6) had four players with five or more kills, led by nine from Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo .
In the middle match, Wells would defeat Pratt 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-15).
Gwynedd Mercy will get back at it next weekend when they head to Cedar Crest for a tri-match with the Falcons and New Jersey City.
