BOX SCOREGWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Griffins rallied to win their fourth game in a row as Gwynedd Mercy took down DeSales, 3-2, on Saturday.
Freshman
Melissa Russo (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) scored twice and junior
Katie O'Neill (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) netted the go-ahead goal with under 10 minutes in regulation to seal the win.
After a scoreless first half, Russo put the Griffins (4-2) on the board just 52 seconds into the stanza off an assist from freshman
Abigail Gabriel (Telford, Pa./Souderton). But the Bulldogs (3-3) answered as Alyssa Malatesta converted on a penalty corner at the 27:13 mark. Minutes later, sister Allison Malatesta, who assisted on the first tally, scored one of her own putting DeSales up, 2-1.
Russo would knot things up at 2-2 just over minute later with an assist from junior
Megan Senkeleski (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank). Senkeleski would add her second assist on the day she and O'Neill convered a penalty corner with only 8:58 in the game.
Gwynedd would outshoot DeSales, 27-11, with 15 of those shots coming in the second half.
Senior goalie
Kelly Kruk (Phoenixville, Pa./Methacton) made six saves in the win. DeSales keeper, Becky Rasmuson recorded 10 stops.
The Griffins will host sixth-ranked (NFHCA) College of New Jersey on Tuesday in a 6 p.m. start.
