GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Griffins came away with a split in their first tri-match of the season, taking down Centenary, 3-0, in a CSAC matchup, before falling to Rutgers-Camden, 3-0.

In the win over the Cyclones (25-18, 25-18, 25-21), the Griffins served up 15 aces and 34 kills as a team. Sophomore Laura Kirk (Saegertown, Pa./Maplewood) led the charge, totaling a game-high 11 kills, along with 17 digs and four aces. Sophomore Kasey Loring (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) chipped in eight kills, four aces, and seven digs.

GM led from start to finish in the first set as Kirk would cement the win with a kill and in the second, four-straight points helped turn a four-point edge to a 2-0 lead. In the third, a late push helped get the win as two aces from junior Lauren Tressel (Pembroke, Ma./Pembrooke) sealed the deal.

Against Rutgers-Camden (25-18, 25-15, 25-18), Gwynedd totaled 23 hitting errors to just 25 kills. GM would see an 11-11 tie in the first set turn into a 19-12 Scarlet Raptor lead. In the second set, the Griffins jumped out to a 4-0 lead before R-C made it 8-5 and later a sizable 14-7 advantage. In the third, GM again would go ahead, 9-7, but saw the score turn into a 19-12 deficit.

Kirk tied a game-high with eight kills.

Gwynedd Mercy (5-6) returns to action on Tuesday with a match at Penn State-Abington at 7 p.m.
