GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy suffered their first CSAC losses of the season, as defending champion Neumann handed the Griffins doubleheader defeats. The Knights took game one, 12-3, and the second, 8-1.

In game one, the Griffins scored a pair of early runs and would lead into the fifth where Neumann break it open with a four-run frame and followed the next inning with six runs.

An RBI groundout in the first from Ashley Lamont (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) and a two-out RBI single in the second from freshman Nikki Canfield (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) staked GM to a 2-0 lead. Lamont would allow just two hits up until the fifth where the Knights were able to load the bases with no outs. The Griffins looked to escape any harm, getting a lineout at short and a shallow flyout to center, but Neumann's Becky Guinto broke through with a single through the left side. Lauren Wilkie would then deliver the big blow, a bases-loaded clearing double to deep center to give the Knights a 4-2 lead.

GM (6-13, 6-2 CSAC) got a run back in the bottom half on sac fly from Stephanie Farrar (North Wales, Pa./North Penn). Later in the frame, with runners on first and second with two outs, a single to center from sophomore Marisa Bentley (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) looked to score Megan Kelly (Ivyland, Pa./Little Flower) from second, but Allie White's throw was in time to get Kelly out at home.

Wilkie would add her second RBI double as part of a six-run sixth. Officially, she was 4-for-5 at the plate and would go the distance on the mound, allowing two earned runs on seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Lamont would surrender a career-high 18 hits. Junior Jennifer Whalen (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) scored twice.

In game two, Neumann (13-5, 9-1 CSAC) got to Whalen early, with three runs on three hits in the first. Kristin Beaty frustrated the Griffins the rest of the way, allowing just two hits on one unearned run.

Guinto was at it again, going 2-for-4 with three RBI's. Kelly and Lamont recorded the lone hits for GM.

The Griffins head to LaPlume, Pa. for a conference date with Keystone on Friday starting at 3 p.m.
