LANGHORNE, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy punched its ticket to the postseason with a doubleheader split at Cairn on Friday with a win in game two, 2-0. The Highlanders took game on, 1-0, on a walk off RBI single in the extra innings.

Game two starter Jennifer Whalen (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) allowed just three hits with six strikeouts and no walks. She would not allow a baserunner past second until the sixth where she got out of a bases loaded jam with a groundout.

GM would plate their two runs in the fifth as senior Stephanie Farrar (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) hit into a fielder's choice with the bases loaded to score sophomore Marisa Bentley (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) and in the next at-bat, a dropped fly in left allowed sophomore Megan Kelly (Ivyland, Pa./Little Flower) to score an unearned run from third.

It was more than enough for Whalen who picked up her third win on the year. Whalen, Farrar and Bentley were each 2-for-3 at the plate. Farrar's two hits went for doubles.

In game one, Brigid Shehan's bases loaded single scored game's only run in the eighth in a walk off win.

The Griffins were held to just three hits, but had a runner at third in three innings in scoring position, but could not capitalize.

Freshman Nikki Canfield (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) had two of the three hits, going 2-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases.

Sophomore Ashley Lamont (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) was the tough-luck loser, scattering 10 hits over 7.1 innings with no walks and one strikeout.

Gwynedd Mercy (12-21, 12-8 CSAC) closes out the regular season tomorrow with a double dip with Marywood. GM is locked into either a #5 or #6 seed and will play on the road in a first-round playoff game on Wednesday.
