CLARKS SUMMIT, PA. -- With two tough wins at Baptist Bible on Wednesday, Gwynedd Mercy moved closer to clinching a postseason spot. The Griffins took game one, 5-3, and the second, 9-4.

In game one, Gwynedd used a four-run sixth to erase a 3-1 deficit. GM used key hits from sophomore Kelsey McDonough (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower), an RBI triple, and Alexis Deal (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock South), an RBI single, in the inning.

The Griffins (11-20, 11-7 CSAC) took advantage of three Defender errors, to score three unearned runs.

Sophomore Ashley Lamont (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) allowed just three runs (one earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks. She also went 2-for-4 with a double and run scored.

Junior Jennifer Whalen (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) also did it on the mound and at the plate in game two. She would scatter four runs on nine hits, while fanning seven and walking three and go 3-for-4 with a two-run single in the fifth. That inning saw GM score five times to add to their 2-1 lead.

An RBI double and a two-run triple in the sixth pulled Baptist Bible (6-23, 4-14 CSAC) within three at 7-4. The Griffins were able to add two insurance runs in their final at-bat in the seventh.

McDonough and senior Stephanie Farrar (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) each tripled. Farrar finished with two hits and a run scored.

Gwynedd Mercy continues its playoff push with a two-fer on Friday when they travel to Cairn in a 3 p.m. start.
