BOX SCORE

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Immaculata Mighty Macs were no match for the Gwynedd Mercy Field Hockey squad as the Griffins notched their eighth consecutive win, remaining undefeated in conference play with a 4-2 win Tuesday evening. The victory clinches a playoff berth for the Griffins as they improve to 12-3 overall and 5-0 in CSAC play.

Junior Stephanie Bacho (Cinnaminson, N.J./ Holy Cross) got the Griffins on the board first after she found the back of the cage following a rebound. The Mighty Macs were quick to answer when junior Patsy Murphy (West Chester, Pa./ WC Bayard Rustin) found senior Tiffany Lockfeld (Glen Mills, Pa./ WC Bayard Rustin) to tie the score at 1-1, but the IU goal kicked the Gwynedd offense into full swing. Gwynedd followed up with two quick goals from freshman Melissa Russo (Saylorsburg, Pa./ Pleasant Valley) to put the Griffins up 3-1 at the break.

The Griffins out shot the Mighty Macs, 13-4, in the half and took the advantage in corners, 6-2.

Lindsay Cras (Drexel Hill, Pa./ Prendie) got the Mighty Macs within one goal early in the second half but the IU defense couldn't hold back the Griffins for long. Moments later, freshman Brianna O'Connell (Berlin, N.J./ Eastern) connected a pass with junior Katie Hickson (Harleysville, Pa./ Lansdale Catholic) for the final goal of the game on a nice deflection to give the Griffins a two-goal cushion.

Senior goalie Kelly Kruk (Phoenixville, Pa./ Methacton) would finish the day with four saves to clinch the win., IU keeper, Sarah Pasternak finished with 13 saves.

Next, the Griffins hit the road to take on Neumann at 2 p.m. on Saturday. With a win, Gwynedd can clinch a semifinal home playoff game.
