true Gwynedd Mercy 78, Marywood 64
BOX SCORESCRANTON, PA. -- Led by four players in double figures, Gwynedd Mercy went on to its fifth win in a row with a 78-64 CSAC win at Marywood on Saturday.
The Griffins (12-4, 8-1 CSAC), who now have won nine of 10, received a game-high and season-high 20 points from sophomore
Darnell Artis (Philadelphia, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.). Junior
Seth Heinicke (Warminster, Pa./Calvary) added 15 point while
Colin Gates (Boca Raton, Fl./Grandview Prep) and
Justin Knight (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) chipped in 13 apiece.
Both teams shot well, but it was Gwynedd who connected on 11 three-pointers, reaching double digit treys for the third time this year. Artis, along with sophomore
Brian Hennessey (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) each drained three each while Heinicke and Gates nailed two.
Gwynedd built a six-point halftime lead before opening things up in the second. Back-to-back three's from Artis, with a bucket from Heinicke turned a seven-point lead into 50-35 edge with 13 minutes to go.
Marywood would get as close as nine (62-53) with 6:37 to play before Gates was fouled on a three-point attempt. He would make all three attempts to restore a 12-point cushion which GM would hold on to the rest of the way.
D.J. Davis totaled 19 points and 15 boards for the Pacers (5-9, 1-6 CSAC).
Heinicke led the Griffins with seven rebounds. Hennessey finished with nine points.
Gwynedd Mercy returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Immaculata for a conference get-together in an 8 p.m. start.
