SELINSGROVE, PA. -- Susquehanna defeated Gwynedd-Mercy, 4-1, Wednesday evening as the Griffins suffered their first loss of the year.

Sophomore Katie O'Neill (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) had the lone Griffin goal in the first half as the Crusaders (2-1) struck early in the contest. Megan McClellan scored 4:40 into the game for a 1-0 Susquehanna lead.

After O'Neill's tally, with an assist from Maria Karidas (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South), Susquehanna netted two before the half to put GM (1-1) in a 3-1 deficit at halftime.

The teams were nearly even in shot as Gwynedd held a 19-18 edge, but could not solve SU goalie Margaret Ruth, who made 13 total saves. Griffin goalie Kelly Kruk (Phoenixville, Pa./Methacton) recorded five stops.

The Griffins will look to rally a week from tonight when they host Delaware Valley here at the GMC Athletic Complex at 4 p.m.
