Field Hockey Upended At William Paterson

WAYNE, N.J. -- The Griffin Field Hockey Team fell, 3-1, at William Paterson on Sunday.

The Griffins (4-5) fell behind 2-0 in the game's first 13 minutes on a pair of goals from Brianne Cox. They would be the only two shots for the Pioneers in the half as GM pressed on, forcing nine penalty corners and five shots in the stanza.

In the 55th minute, sophomore Stephanie Bacho (Cinnaminson, N.J./Holy Cross) would put Gwynedd on the board with her third goal of the season. Katie O'Neill (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) added the assist.

But with just over a minute remaining, William Paterson added an insurance goal on a penalty corner, sending GM to its second consecutive loss.

WPC would outshoot Gwynedd, 10-3, and have a 9-2 penalty corner edge in the second half.

Junior goalie Kelly Kruk (Phoenixville, Pa./Methacton) recorded seven second-half saves. Kellye Statz notched four for the Pioneers (5-5).

Gwynedd Mercy will play its second NJAC opponent in a row on Tuesday, when they travel to Richard Stockton for a 7 p.m. start.
