GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy fell in two tough matches in their home tri-match on Saturday, dropping a 3-2 decision to Arcadia, and a 3-1 defeat to Wesley.
In both matches, the Griffins (2-14) would win the first set, but come up short at the end.
Against Arcadia (24-26, 31-33, 25-15, 25-9, 15-6), Gwynedd saw too huge rallies early on, overcoming a 24-21 deficit to win the first set and again in the second in a wild 33-31 win.
Freshman
Kasey Loring (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) led GM with 10 kills and four blocks. Senior
Michelle Carrieri (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) added 16 digs and six aces, both team highs while
Stephanie Farrar (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) added a career-high five blocks (one solo).
Natalie Cadmus led the Knights with a match-high 15 kills, she also added 15 digs.
Gwynedd would get off to a good start vs. Wesley (19-25, 25-8,25-18,26-24), taking the first set, 25-19. The Wolverines were in control the next two sets before the Griffins tried to make a big comeback to try and force a fifth and deciding set. Down 21-11, GM ripped off seven-straight points and would later tie it at 24-24, but eventually fall, 26-24.
Carrieri and sophomore
Lauren Tressel (Pembroke, Ma./Pembroke) led the Griffins with six kills. The team totaled a season-high eight blocks. Loring led the block party with five (four solo).
Arnelle Akakpo was one of three Wolverines in double-digit kills with 13.
In the sandwich match, Wesley defeated Arcadia, 3-2.
Gwynedd Mercy will host Baptist Bible on Wednesday night in CSAC action starting at 7 p.m.
