READING, PA. -- A late penalty stroke goal from Alvernia enabled the Crusaders to upend Gwynedd Mercy, 2-1, in non-conference action.

The Griffins (2-2) who trailed much of the game after a goal in the 10th minute, used a goal on the penalty corner as sophomore Katie O'Neill (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) redirected a shot from the point at the 62:51 mark.

Gwynedd had an earlier chance to tie it on a penalty stroke of their own in the second but an attempt from senior Maria Karidas (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) was stopped by goalie Erin Wunsch.

With 1:57 left in regulation, the Crusaders (3-2) were awarded a penalty stroke where Alexis Klopp beat GM keeper Kelly Kruk (Phoenixville, Pa./Methacton) for the eventual go-ahead tally.

Kruk would finish with 10 saves while Wunsch recorded seven. Each side had a defensive save to help the cause.
Gwynedd Mercy will host Widener on Tuesday under the lights in a 7 p.m. start.
