CSAC Softball Championship Preview

Who: Gwynedd-Mercy College Griffins at Neumann University Knights
Where: Neumann University - Aston, Pa.
When: Friday, May 3rd at 12 p.m.
What: 2013 CSAC Softball Double Elimination Tournament (with full schedule)

Gwynedd-Mercy and Keystone earned their spots in the CSAC softball double-elimination tournament this weekend. The Griffins defeated Marywood, 2-1, in the preliminary round on Wednesday.  The Giants defeated Centenary, 4-0.
Sixth-seeded Keystone will take on second-seeded Immaculata at 10:00 a.m. on Friday morning in the first game of this weekend's double-elimination conference tournament at Neumann University in Aston, PA. The Griffins will play the top-seeded Knights at 12 p.m.

The Griffins are led by freshman Ashley Lamont (Hillsborough, N.J. / Hillsborough) as she was voted the 2013 CSAC Rookie of the Year. Fellow freshman Kelsey McDonough (Philadelphia, Pa. / Little Flower) and junior Stephanie Farrar (North Wales, Pa. / North Penn) were also selected to the All-CSAC First Team.

Immaculata's Holly Schell was named the 2013 CSAC Softball Player of the Year.  Schell started all 38 games for the Mighty Macs this year producing 44 hits and driving in 22 RBIs and teammate Meagan Fitzgerald was voted as the 2013 CSAC Pitcher of the Year. In 22 appearances Fitzgerald had 19 complete games including six shutouts with a 2.77 ERA.  Neumann placed four players on the All-CSAC first team Seniors Callie Emel and Mariah Ripken also a pair of sophomores Becca Reinhart and Allie White. The Giants are led by All-CSAC second teamers Samantha Hartman and Sara Schraden.

The Griffins, Giants and Mighty Macs are looking for their first CSAC Softball Championship.  The Griffins last tournament appearance was in 2009. Immaculata who is appearing in their fifth-straight tournament were runners up in 2009 and the Giants return to the playoffs for the second consecutive year after being eliminated in the preliminary round last year.  Top seeded-Neumann is looking for its fourth CSAC title.  The Knights were runners up the previous two seasons while claiming championships in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
