GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA -- A go-ahead RBI double from freshman Ashley Lamont (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) in the fifth inning broke a tie game to allow Gwynedd-Mercy to advance in the CSAC Tournament with a 2-1 win over Marywood on Wednesday.

The fourth-seeded Griffins now take on the host and top-seeded Knights of Neumann on Friday at noon in the double elimination tournament.

Lamont went 2-for-3 at the plate and scattered six hits on one run with three strikeouts and just one walk on the mound.

Gwynedd (19-14) got on the board in the second as Alexis Deal (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock South) scored from second on an error in right field on a single off the bat of Katlin Nuscis (Chichester, Pa./Chichester) with two outs for a 1-0 lead.

Samantha Rayhon would hit a lead-off homer in the fifth to knot the game up at 1-1.

In the sixth, junior Stephanie Farrar (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) hit a double in the gap in left center with two outs. Lamont followed with a two-bagger in the same spot to plate Farrar giving the Griffins a 2-1 edge.

Farrar would help Lamont get out of a jam in the sixth, making a diving grab in right center with two outs and runners at second and third. GM would try to tack on some insurance runs in the bottom half. With two outs, Nuscis reached on a hit by pitch, followed by back-to-back walks to Kaitlyn Johnson (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley) and Jennifer Whalen (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) to load the bases. Marywood's Katherine King came on to relieve starter Alexandra Stine, and was able in induce a groundout to end the threat.

In the seventh, the Pacers (18-15) had the game-tying run on second with two outs, but Lamont sealed the deal, ending the game with a strikeout.

Stine gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits, with five walks, and five K's. Diana Butash had two hits while Rayhon was 1-for-3.
