GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – Freshman
Ashley Lamont (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) picked up two wins and drove in five runs to guide Gwynedd-Mercy to a CSAC DH sweep of Rosemont on Saturday. The Griffins won game one, 15-0, and the second, 13-8.
The day was spent to help raise funds and promote awareness for the
Strike Out For Cancer initiative sponsored by the American Cancer Society.
Lamont allowed just two hits with four strikeouts and two walks in a 15-0 win in game one. She also added a pair of RBI doubles.
Kelsey McDonough (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) went 2-for-3 with a double, triple, and two RBIs.
GM scored seven runs in the first on six hits and an error and did not look back. A six-run fourth was highlighted by a pair of two-run singles, one each from
Stephanie Farrar (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and
Alexis Deal (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock South).
In game two, Lamont came on in relief after the Ravens went ahead 5-2 after two and a half innings. Rosemont would put up four runs in the top of the third on four hits and two errors. The Griffins answered with a four-spot of their own in the bottom half as Farrar went deep for her fourth home run, a two-run shot. GM would break it open in the fifth with seven runs as Lamont's two-run double highlighted the frame.
Lamont gave up one earned run on four hits with four K's and no walks in four and a third's of work.
Picher Nikki Maurer had two hits and two RBI's in game two for Rosemont (5-13, 3-9 CSAC).
Gwynedd-Mercy (8-10, 6-2 CSAC) will look to get back to .500 on the season on Friday when they host Notre Dame (Md.) at 3 p.m. in a CSAC two-fer.
