HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. -- Centenary knocked out Gwynedd-Mercy, 12-5, in a semifinal game of the 2013 CSAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament on Tuesday.
The third-seeded Griffins were looking for a return to the championship game, but came up short in their quest. The second seeded Cyclones will now play at top-seeded Cabrini in the title game on Saturday.
Senior
Bill Beck (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) led GM with two goals while
Mason Risner (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) added a score and an assist.
Centenary would score seven unanswered goals, breaking a 4-4 tie to stretch a big lead into the fourth quarter. Gwynedd scored one goal in the second half.
The Griffins took a 3-2 lead after the first on two late goals from sophomore
Nico Belardo (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) and Beck in the stanza. The Cyclones would answer with a pair of goals less than 10 seconds apart to start the second. Freshman
Tony McCraw (Lawnton, Pa./Central Dauphin East) would net an unassisted tally at the 6:07 mark. Joshua Caven, Joey DeBiasse, and Conor Nolan would net goals in the final 2:47 before half time for a 7-4 edge.
DeBiasse led Centenary (13-2) with three goals and five assists. Cameron Gunn chipped in two goals and two helpers.
GM outshot the Cyclones, 44-28, and caused 11 turnovers, but was just 4-of-19 on faceoffs.
Beck set single-season records in goals (38), points (56), and man-up goals (9) this season. Senior
Roy Bakeoven (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan), who had an assist in the game, leaves the program as the all-time leader in goals (97), points (143), man-up goals (17), and game-winning goals (9).
Senior goalie
Ryley O'Keefe (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) made his mark in the record books, as he is the all-time leader in wins (20), saves (326), save percent (.556), and goals against (8.26 GAA).
Beck, Bakeoven, Risner, O'Keefe,
Dustan Mangin (Perkasie, Pa./Archbishop Wood), and
Jonathan Figliola (Weston, Ct./Weston) leave with a combined record of 34-29 and 17-8 in conference play with four playoff berths and two conference championship appearances.
