Lamont Named CSAC Rookie Of The Year

April 29, 2013

ASTON, PA. -- Freshman Ashley Lamont (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) was named the 2013 Softball CSAC Rookie of the Year highlighting Gwynedd-Mercy in the season-ending awards.

Lamont, along with junior Stephanie Farrar (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and freshmen Kelsey McDonough (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) and Ave Bolli (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) were all named all conference.

Senior Kelsey Craig (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) was selected to the CSAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Lamont, who had impressive numbers on the mound and at the plate, earned first-team honors at pitcher and second-team accolades at designated player. She is 13-5 in 21 appearances and 15 starts, with 15 complete games and four shutouts. She is also 11-2 in conference games. In 114 innings of work, she has a 2.70 ERA with 86 strikeouts and just 18 walks. Opponents are batting. 273 against her on 128 hits and 44 earned runs. She picked up three of her wins in relief. Lamont struck out a season-high 10 in a 7-3 win over Notre Dame. Lamont would fan eight in all eight innings of a 4-3 win in extras.

Offensively she leads the team and is among the league leaders in batting average (.457) and RBIs (32). She has 15 multi-hit and nine multi-RBI games. Her best day came against Cedar Crest in game two, going 4-for-4 with seven RBIs, four runs scored and two home runs.

Centerfielder Farrar earned her third-straight all-conference honor and second first-team accolade. She is currently batting .417 with 33 runs, five home runs, five doubles, three triples, and 25 RBIs, playing in all 32 games. Her total hits (38) and runs are a career high.

McDonough, a firstbaseman, is enjoying a stellar rookie season, batting .385 with 21 runs, 23 RBI's, and tied for the team lead with Lamont with 14 extra base hits (eight doubles, four triples, and two homers).

Bolli started all 32 games at second base and boasts a .937 fielding percentage. Offensively, she is batting .229, but has the third most walks (12). Half of her 12 hits this season are for extra bases.

The Griffins (18-14, 16-6 CSAC) have earned the #4 playoff seed and will host #5 Marywood here on Wednesday in a CSAC Tournament Play-in game starting at 4 p.m.
