RADNOR, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy rode the hot bat of
Kelsey McDonough (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) and the pitching duo of
Ashley Lamont (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) and
Kaitlyn Johnson (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley) to help sweep a CSAC Doubleheader at Cabrini. The Griffins took game one, 5-1, and the second, 9-1.
McDonough went a combined 7-for-8 with two doubles and a homerun along with five runs and three RBIs for GM (5-9, 4-2 CSAC)
Lamont would scatter one run on six hits in game one as the Griffins scored runs late in the contest. In the sixth of a 1-1 game, McDonough would double and later score on an error and Johnson added a two-out RBI for a two-run lead.
Ave Bolli (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) added some insurance with another two-out hit in the seventh, driving in two runs with her bases loaded single to center. In the bottom of the seventh, Lamont worked out of back-to-back lead-off hits to get three-straight pop ups to end it.
Game two saw the opposite offensively, as Gwynedd scored three runs in each of the second and third innings to run out to a 6-0 lead. It would be 7-0 before the Cavaliers (7-6, 7-2 CSAC) got on the board, scoring a run on a wild pitch in the fourth.
McDonough capped the day with a lead-off homerun in the seventh, for her first long ball of the season.
Johnson allowed seven hits with five walks and three strikeouts, but she was able to get out two bases-loaded jams, one in the second, and one in the sixth.
Gwynedd-Mercy welcomes Haverford for a non-league twinbill here on Thursday in a 3 p.m. start. Live stats will be available for both games.
