GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy rolled to their eighth wins in a row after a CSAC sweep over visiting Baptist Bible on Friday. The Griffins won game one, 11-1, and the second, 12-4.
The Griffins (14-10, 12-2 CSAC) only had six hits in game one, but took advantage of 10 walks. Three of those six hits went for triples.
After a scoreless first, GM exploded for nine runs in the second all on just four hits and five walks.
Kelsey McDonough (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) added a two-run triple in the third.
The Defenders got an RBI single from Hannah Strayer in the fifth.
Sophomore
Kaitlyn Johnson (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley) picked up the win, fanning three with three walks on six hits and one run. No GM player had more than two hits.
In game two, it was Baptist Bible who got on the board first, plating three in their first at-bat. The Griffins countered with a three spot of their own.
Stephanie Farrar (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) connected on a two-run double in the third to put the Griffins back on top. In the fourth, Johnson drove in two with a single to left and later score on an error to make it an 8-3 lead.
Farrar would drive in three and score twice while going 3-for-3. McDonough and
Ashley Lamont (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) each went 2-for-4. Lamont added two RBI's and two runs scored. She also earned the win, coming in relief of Johnson in the first and struck out six over 4.1 innings on just four hits and a run. Junior
Katlin Nuscis (Wildwood, N.J./Chichester Pa.) was 2-for-2 with a triple.
Alyssa Rockefeller was 3-for-3 while Strayer was 2-for-3 with two RBI's for the Defenders (4-19, 1-14 CSAC).
Gwynedd-Mercy travels to Centenary tomorrow for another conference twinbill starting at noon.
