IMMACULATA, PA. -- Senior Frank Champion (Northfield, N.J./Mainland) went for a career-high 29 points and freshman Darnell Artis (Philadelphia, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.) hit two big three-pointers in the second overtime to help Gwynedd-Mercy outlast Immaculata, 73-67, for their third win in a row.

Champion was 11-of-16 from the floor and 7-of-10 from the line while adding eight rebounds. Artis finished with 16 points, with eight big one coming in the second overtime on a pair of treys and two trips to the line. His last three-pointer came with 1:21 remaining for the 12th, and final, lead change of the night.

Sophomore Justin Knight (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) chipped in 14 points, seven boards, and five steals as GM (12-9, 11-3 CSAC) defeated the Mighty Macs (10-11, 9-5 CSAC) for the second time in less than a week.

Kendall Peters led IU with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Brandon Smith also netted 14 respectively.

Both teams were in each other's rearview mirrors all night, as neither squad had a lead larger than seven, both of which came early in the contest. Immaculata raced out to an 11-4 lead before the Griffins roared back via a 14-0 run to stake their largest lead.

Gwynedd led, 30-29, at the break. In the second, things were much tighter as no lead was greater than four points. Leading by two with 47 seconds left, the Griffins were called for a shot-clock violation, giving the ball back to the Mighty Macs. Peters hit two free throws after drawing a foul to send the teams into an extra session. Artis and Champion scored on buckets to erase a four-point lead late in the first overtime. Both teams had looks to win it, but neither were good and off to a second overtime they went.

Artis would drain a three-pointer on the Griffins' first possession and Champion added a field goal for a 66-61 lead. Peters then hit back-to-back treys to give IU one last lead. Gwynedd took the lead for good as Artis sank his fourth three-pointer and the team was a perfect 4-for-4 from the line in the final 14 seconds to help salt the win.

The Griffins shot 46% (27-of-58) for the game while Immaculata was at a 39% (23-of-59) clip.

Gwynedd-Mercy will travel to Cabrini on Wednesday for a big CSAC matchup as part of a doubleheader with the women. The men's game will tip off at 8 p.m.
