BOX SCORE

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy fell on the road, 85-81, Saturday at Elizabethtown College.

The Griffins were led by a trio of scorers in double figures. Seth Heinicke (Warminster, Pa. / Calvary Christian) led the Griffins with a team-high 22 points. Arron Goodman (Newtown, Pa. / Council Rock North) added 20 points and was one rebound shy of his fourth straight double-double with nine boards. Justin Knight (Mays Landing, N.J. / Oakcrest) chipped in 15 for GM (2-2).

Gwynedd had a slow start out of the gate falling behind the Blue Jays, 12-4, to open up the first stanza. The Griffins would regroup and find themselves with the lead (34-33) on a Goodman layup with just over four minutes remaining in the half. E-Town would close out the half though, ending the period on a 9-0 run to take a 42-38 lead heading into the halftime break.

GM would regain the lead in the second half when Tom Catanoso (Cape May Court House, N.J. / Middle Twp.) hit a three pointer to put the Griffins ahead, 59-57, at the 14:04 mark. Both teams would have a see-saw battle over the last nine minutes that saw five ties and five lead changes. A Knight layup put Gwynedd ahead, 77-73, with 2:28 remaining but the Blue Jays would tie the contest and later took the lead for good on a Lee Eckert layup to go ahead, 79-77. A big three-point play from Phil Wenger with 21 ticks left gave Elizabethtown a five-point lead. Knight's late layup put GM within two, but Wenger would draw a foul and hit two more at the line for the final score.

Gwynedd shot 49.2% from the field (30-of-61), knocking down eight three-pointers. GM also held a 33-29 advantage on the glass.

Wenger led all scorers with a game-high 28 points. Backcourt mate Joe Bodnar added 19. The duo combined to connect on 7-of-8 shooting from behind the arc.

The Griffins will return back to action on Tuesday hosting Cairn University to open Colonial States Athletic Conference play. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
