ALLENTOWN, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy fell to the host Muhlenberg College Saturday night, 81-80, in the 32nd annual Scotty Wood Tournament championship game.

The Griffins were led by a trio of double-digit scorers Justin Knight (Mays Landing, N.J. / Oakcrest), Arron Goodman (Newtown, Pa. / Council Rock North) and Seth Heinicke (Warminster, Pa. / Calvary Christian). Knight led the way with a team high 23 points. Goodman and Heinicke both recorded double-dobules for GM. Goodman recorded his second straight double-double scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Heinicke scored 15 points and added 10 boards.

Both teams played an even first half when Knight connected on a pair of free throws to tie the contest 31-31 with just over six minutes remaining in the half. The Mules however would go on a 10-1 run capped by a Malique Killing layup to stretch their lead to nine 41-32 with just over four minutes reamaing. The Griffins would chip away cutting the deficit to four on a Knight layup. Muhlenberg would take a 44-40 lead heading into the halftime break.

In the second half, Gwynedd took a 58-57 lead with just under 12 minutes remaining on a Heinicke layup. Muhlenberg would regain the lead with a Killing layup and wouldn't trail the remainder of the game. The Mules would stretch the lead to 10 (76-66) on another Killing layup. Gwynedd would chip away again cutting the lead to one on a Knight layup, but the Griffins were unable to overcome the deficit falling in 81-80.

The Griffins shot 39% (25-of-64) from the field and connected on nine three pointers. The Mules barely outrebounded Gwynedd, 44-43, with both teams grabbing 15 offensive rebounds apiece.

Killing led all scorers with 28 points. Muhlenberg also added three other double digit scorers in Alec Stavetski (19), Kevin Hargrove (16) and Brandon Bovino (11).

Knight and Goodman were named to the all-tournament team along with Deion Boyer (Bryn Athyn), Frankie Drayton (Hunter), and Stavetski. Killing was named the MVP of the weekend tournament.

Gwynedd will return back to action on Tuesday hosting Penn-State Berks for their 2013 home opener. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
