GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy defeated Marywood, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon to clinch their ticket to the 2013 Colonial States Athletic Conference Playoffs.

Prior to the game the Griffins honored five seniors Sarah Jackson (Sewell, N.J. / Washington Twp.), Erin Magee (Lindenwold, N.J. / Paul VI), Maria Karidas (Richboro, Pa. / Council Rock South), Brianne Kline (York, Pa. / Central York) and Morgan Grothmann (West Chester, Pa. / West Chester East).

The Griffins got on the scoreboard early when Karidas put away her 19th goal of the season on an assist from Kline at the 4:51 mark to give Gwynedd the 1-0 lead. However the Pacers would tie the contest 1-1 when Julie Kowalski found the back of the cage at the 18:01 showing. The Griffins outshot Marywood, 11-2, in the first stanza but the Pacers held their own to keep the game tied heading into the halftime break.

Gwynedd would keep the pressure strong in the second half when they broke through with just 3:21 remaining in the contestwhen sophomore Stephanie Bacho (Cinnaminson, N.J. / Holy Cross) placed her ball on the stick of Katie O'Neill (Newtown, Pa. / Council Rock North) who deflected her shot over the goalie Natalie Winters' head to give the Griffins the 2-1 advantage. The goal was O'Neill's fifth game-winning goal of her young career.

Kelly Kruk (Phoenixville, Pa. / Methacton) made three saves to pick up her 39th win of her career. Winters had a standing-on-her-head performance making 12 stops on the afternoon.

The Griffins will have to wait for their playoff opponent with four teams still vying for two playoff bids.

Gwynedd returns back to action on Wednesday night as they travel to Immaculata. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
