GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Notre Dame crashed the party Tuesday evening, defeating the Griffins, 3-0, on Senior Night. Set scores were 25-23, 25-16, and 25-16.
Prior to the match, the team honored its three seniors,
Elyssa Cruz (Wrightstown, N.J./Northern Burlington),
Michelle Carrieri (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) and
Stephanie Farrar (North Wales, Pa./North Penn), along with the four seniors from Notre Dame.
In the first set, the Griffins rallied from a 4-1 deficit with six-straight points. They would later lead 11-7 before the Gators pieced four points in a row to tie it up. A 5-1 spurt put Notre Dame up before GM tied it up at 16-16. It stayed neck and neck before ND pulled away for the 25-23 win. The second set saw Gwynedd race out to a 8-4 lead before the Gators netted 11 points in a row to go on and win, 25-16. After Notre Dame took a 6-2 lead, the Griffins could not gain much traction in the third and final set.
Carrieri led the Griffins (3-25, 2-6 CSAC) with seven kills and three blocks (one solo). Farrar added six kills, eight digs, and two aces.
Cortney Silvis led all attackers with 10 kills for the Gators (11-8, 4-5 CSAC). Taylor Combs added six kills, eight digs, and two solo blocks.
Gwynedd Mercy plays at Marywood on Saturday in CSAC action starting at noon.
