Maria Karidas (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) scored three times, the last coming with 6:49 remaining to help lift Gwynedd-Mercy to a 3-2 win at Widener Thursday night.
Karidas recorded her second career hat trick as the Griffins (2-1), who led in almost every offensive statistical category, had to battle the entire 70 minutes to earn the victory.
The Pride, had just four shots for the game, but an early one from Meghan Garvey gave Widener a 1-0 lead 8:29 into the contest.
Karidas and the Griffins answered later in the half, as she netted two scores in a span of just under two minutes apart. Senior
Erin Gorenflo (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) set up the first goal at the 21:01 mark. Soon after freshman
Megan Senkeleski (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank) got in on the action, assisting on the second goal at 22:43.
It stayed 2-1 midway into the second half before Garvey assisted on a goal in the 56th minute.
The Griffins totaled 18 shots on the night and a 13-to-3 penalty corner advantage.
