SCRANTON, PA. – Keystone handed Gwynedd-Mercy a 2-1 setback Wednesday afternoon, snapping the Griffins' three-game win streak.

Junior Maria Karidas (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) scored the lone goal for GM (6-3, 0-1 CSAC), who fell in their CSAC opener.

Gwynedd posted six first-half corners but could not draw first blood. Late in the stanza, they were awarded a penalty stroke but the attempt from senior Erin Gorenflo (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) was stopped by Keystone keeper Nichole Blank.

The Giants got on the board 3:13 into the second on a goal by Brittany Cardona.

Karidas helped to tie it at 1-1 as she converted on one of the 10 corners in the stanza with an assist from junior Brianne Kline (York, Pa./Central York).

But Krystal Wilbur and Keystone answered less than two minutes later on a penalty corner of their own.

The Griffins had four corners in the last 5:53 of the game, but could find the equalizer.

Blank finished with six saves for the Giants (4-4, 3-0 CSAC). Sophomore Kelly Kruk (Phoenixville, Pa./Methacton) made four.

Gwynedd-Mercy will host Notre Dame of Maryland on Tuesday in CSAC action starting at 4 p.m.
