Griffin Defense Helps To Hold Off Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, PA. – Sophomore goalie Kelly Kruk (Phoenixville, Pa./Methacton) recorded a career-high 14 saves to help lift Gwynedd-Mercy to a 2-1 road win at Delaware Valley on Monday.

Sophomore Brooke Oliver (Red Hill, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) and junior Sarah Jackson (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) added goals as the Griffins (5-2) weathered a first-half barrage.

Kruk made 13 of her saves in the first half as the Aggies fired off 16 shots and recorded eight of their nine penalty corners.

Oliver scored her first goal of the season right before halftime on a penalty corner with an assist from junior Brianne Kline (York, Pa./Central York).

Jackson made it 2-0 1:57 into the second as she buried her third tally on the year. Junior Maria Karidas (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) added the assist.

From there, the defense allowed just two Aggie shots in the stanza to pull out the win.

Keeper Sandra Edwards made seven saves on 11 shots for Delaware Valley (2-4).

The Griffins will get back at it on Saturday when they take on William Paterson at 3 p.m.
