LANGHORNE, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy closed out the season with a doubleheader sweep at Philadelphia Biblical. The Griffins won game one in eight innings, 4-3, and won the second, 5-1.

The Griffins tied it in game one in the seventh on a two-out RBI single from senior Ali Gurko (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) and took the lead on an RBI groundout from sophomore Stephanie Farrar (North Wales, Pa./North Penn).

Freshman Kaitlyn Johnson, who entered in the seventh for starter Jennifer Whalen (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) pitched a 1-2-3 eighth to close it down.

MaryKate Ballerino (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) went 3-fo-4 with a triple and Katlin Nucsis (Chichester, Pa./Chichester) added one of her own while scoring and driving in a run.

Game two saw Johnson scatter one run on six hits with seven K's and six walks in a 5-1 win. Gurko had the big bat again, going 2-for-4 with a big two-run single as part of a three-run fifth.

Tegan Wendell (Glenside, Pa./Abington) had an RBI double in the first and would later score from second on a stolen base and throwing error to give GM a 2-0 lead.

After Nucsis knocked in a run with runners on second and third in the fifth, Gurko delivered the two-out, two-run hit to put GM up, 5-0.

The Crimson Eagles plated a run in the sixth, but it was too much of Johnson as she struck out two of the three batters in the seventh to notch the win.

Gwynedd-Mercy ends the season with a final record of 8-28 and 7-15 in conference play. It was also the final games for Gurko and fellow senior Nicole Paleologus (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem). The duo has started over 100 games each in their four seasons as a Griffin.
