ROSEMONT, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy took down Rosemont in CSAC Doubleheader Friday afternoon. The Griffins won game one in a shutout, 10-0, and captured game two, 14-8.
In game one, freshman
Jennifer Whalen (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) limited the Ravens to just three hits and one walk with seven strikeouts in throwing her first shutout on the year.
At the plate, Whalen was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. Sophomore
Stephanie Farrar (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) drove in two runs and scored twice.
Rosemont committed eight errors, which led to seven unearned runs. Leading 1-0 after the second, GM (6-28, 5-15 CSAC) scored four runs in the third on just two hits, but took advantage of three errors. Three more errors in the fifth led to five runs.
Game two saw both teams score four times in their first at-bat, but again Gwynedd capitalized on Raven errors leading to a three-run second and four-run third.
Offensively, senior
Ali Gurko (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) was 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs and a stolen base.
Freshman
Kaitlyn Johnson (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley) struck out a season-high nine. She also went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two stolen bases. Freshman
MaryKate Ballerino (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and junior
Tegan Wendell (Glenside, Pa./Abington) both scored three times. Wendell added an RBI triple.
Gwynedd travels to the nation's capital on Sunday to face off with Catholic in a non-league DH starting at 1:30 p.m.
