GLENSIDE, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy and Arcadia split a non-league doubleheader on Sunday. The Griffins took game one, 6-5, but fell in the second, 9-2.

In game one, the Griffins had just five hits but took advantage of two errors, four walks, and two hit batsmen.

Trailing 1-0 in the fourth, GM (4-28) scored five runs highlighted by a two-run single from junior Tegan Wendell (Glenside, Pa./Abington). Senior Nicole Paleologus (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) added an RBI single and freshman Ashley Zavatsky (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) chipped in an RBI groundout.

After the Knights (14-18) plated two in the bottom of the frame, Wendell added a bases loaded walk in the sixth to score her third RBI for a 6-3 lead.

Starter Jennifer Whalen (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) went into the seventh before allowing the first three batters reach base.  From there freshman Kaitlyn Johnson (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley) came on to close it out but yielded two unearned runs before getting a strikeout to end it.

Game two was a different story as three pitchers held the Griffins to one hit. Sophomore Stephanie Farrar (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) accounted for both runs and had the only hit. She would score in the third after a walk, then later on a passed ball.

Farrar led off the sixth with a home run, her team-leading fifth on the year.

Gwynedd-Mercy returns to action on Friday when they play at Rosemont in CSAC action starting at 3 p.m.
