LAPLUME, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy was on the wrong side of a doubleheader in dropping two at Keystone in CSAC action on Tuesday. The Giants took game one, 9-1, and the second 12-4.

In the first game, the Griffins got in trouble in the first as Keystone scored four runs on four hits and two errors to put them in a 4-0 hole. Gwynedd (0-26, 0-14 CSAC) got on the board in the second on an RBI groundout from senior Nicole Paleologus (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem).

Keystone would tack on five more in the third and go on and win in five innings. Freshman Jennifer Whalen (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) suffered the loss.

Game two saw freshman MaryKate Ballerino (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) go 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a home run. Her solo shot in the first gave GM a 1-0 edge.  The Giants answered in the bottom of the frame with a five spot, highlighted by a grand slam from Lisa Ostrander.

Freshman Ashley Zavatsky (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) also had two hits with an RBI double. Sophomore Stephanie Farrar (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) added an RBI triple in the third.

Samantha Hartman was 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three driven in for Keystone (12-9, 5-5 CSAC).

Gwynedd-Mercy will host Cedar Crest on Saturday at noon in the final regular-season home game.
