GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy dropped a pair to Centenary in CSAC action as the Cyclones took game one, 8-0, and, 1-0 in the second.
In game one, the Griffins (0-20, 0-10 CSAC) were limited to two hits as the Cyclones took advantage of six GM errors to score runs in the third, fourth and fifth. The game was called after the fifth.
Centenary's Caitlin Veverka had two hits and drove in four runs, including a two-run homerun in the fourth.
After getting out of a jam in the second with runners at the corners with one out, Centenary (12-8, 8-0 CSAC) plated three in the third. Veverka's RBI single kickstarted a frame where two of the three runs were unearned.
Sophomore
Stephanie Farrar (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) went five innings, yielding four earned runs on nine hits with two walks and two strikeouts. She also had one of the two hits. The Cyclone's Roxanne Keelan fanned five and walked one.
In game two, Veverka struck again as her two-out RBI single in the seventh added an insurance run in a tight contest. A key error on a single to left in the fourth led to their first run.
Keelan again kept GM in check, allowing no runs on four hits with five K's and a walk. Freshman
Kaitlyn Johnson (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley) suffered the loss, giving up one earned run on nine hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
Gwynedd had two good chances to get on the board but Keelan and the Cyclones were able to get out of it. After
MaryKate Ballerino (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) reached second on a dropped fly ball down the left field line, Keelan got a fly out and back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning. Down by two in the seventh and their last at- bat, junior
Kelsey Craig (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) doubled to left, but was stranded as the game ended on a fly out to center.
The Griffins are back at it on Thursday when they travel to Haverford for a non-league twinbill starting at 3 p.m.
