CLARKS SUMMIT, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy fell at Baptist Bible in a CSAC Doubleheader on Friday, dropping game one, 6-0 and game two, 7-5.
The Griffins were limited to five hits in game one but tried to get something going in the fourth. Back-to-back singles led off the inning and would advance up on a groundout, but the baserunners would get stranded as a grounder to third and a fly out to center ended the threat.
Hannah Strayer had the big bat for the Defenders, going 2-for-3 with a double and a three-run homerun in the fifth.
Freshman
MaryKate Ballerino (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) had two of the five hits.
Starter
Jennifer Whalen (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) fanned six, but allowed six runs (five earned) on 10 hits in five innings of work.
Game two saw Gwynedd (0-16, 0-6 CSAC) erase a 4-0 deficit but see Baptist Bible take a late-inning lead to go on and sweep the twinbill.
Sophomore
Stephanie Farrar (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Her lead-off homerun in the fourth put GM on the board. She would strike again in the fifth with a two-run single. Later in the frame she would come around and score on a two-run single from sophomore
Maria Seserko (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) to give the Griffins a 5-4 lead.
BBC answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning on an error and a RBI single. Strayer would tack on and RBI double in the sixth.
In the seventh, Gwynedd threatened again getting two on with one out and the go-ahead run at the plate, but could not get any more runs home.
Freshman
Kaitlyn Johnson (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley) suffered the loss, going all six innings.
Gwynedd-Mercy travels to Immaculata tomorrow for another conference doubleheader. First game gets underway at 1 p.m.
