GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – Neumann took two from Gwynedd-Mercy, sweeping a Colonial States Athletic Conference Doubleheader on Friday. The Knights won, 10-0, in game one and 8-0, in game two.
In the first game, Neumann's Rachel Purpuro held GM to two hits and one walk while striking out 10. Callie Emel went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored. The Knights led 4-0 into the fifth, where they plated six runs on six hits and three errors.
Jennifer Whalen took the loss for GM, going four innings as she pitched into the fifth.
Freshman
MaryKate Ballerino (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) led off the fourth with a triple to right center. She and sophomore
Katlin Nucsis (Chichester, Pa./Chichester) had the only hits for the Griffins.
Game two saw the Griffins (0-10, 0-2 CSAC) keep it close, trailing 1-0 into the fourth. Neumann crossed two runs in the fifth after a two-out single to center was booted allowing the runner from first to score. From there, NU took a 3-0 lead and scored five runs on six hits in the sixth.
Freshman
Kaitlyn Johnson (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley) suffered the loss. She also had the lone hit for GM.
Jackie Herrington was 3-for-3 with an RBI for Neumann (4-8, 2-0 CSAC), falling a triple shy of the cycle.
The Griffins will get right back at it tomorrow as they host Cabrini in a CSAC twinbill starting at noon.
