GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – Two goals and an assist from tournament MVP Sarah Jackson (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) helped Gwynedd-Mercy to capture its second-straight Colonial States Athletic Conference Field Hockey Championship on Saturday as the Griffins downed Cabrini, 5-1.

Gwynedd earns the CSAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament which begins Wednesday. Pairings will be released on Tuesday afternoon. Check back to the GMC Athletic Website for full details.

The junior had a hand in the first two goals to help Gwynedd (15-5) go up in the first half. Her first tally came in the 12th minute as she broke in from the left side after chasing down a through ball down the sideline to beat Cavalier goalie Genevieve Paulin. Jackson then set up junior Caitlin Donahue (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) for a redirected goal at the 20:22 mark, but the Griffins were not done scoring just yet.

Less than 30 seconds later, Gwynedd was awarded a penalty stroke where junior Maria Karidas (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) put it home to give GM a three-goal lead, which they took to the half.

Despite the score, the stats were close as the Griffins held a 5-4 shooting edge but saw Cabrini with three penalty corners to their two.

Early in the second stanza, the Cavaliers (9-9) tried to answer with a quick score from Kate Solewin as she banged in a cross from Lindsey Atzert 48 seconds into the half.

Jackson would help put the game out of reach with her second score on an assist from Karidas with 9:45 left.

Junior Brittany Wilson (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) capped the scoring for Gwynedd with a goal with two seconds remaining.

Overall, GM outshot Cabrini, 12-11, but the Cavs won the penalty corner edge, 8-7.

Sophomore Kelly Kruk (Phoenixville, Pa./Methacton) made eight saves in goal. Paulin recorded four for Cabrini.

This is the third conference title for the Griffins after championship wins in 1999 and 2011. It marked the fourth appearance in the title game for GM.
