SCRANTON, PA. – Behind a first-half goal from junior Maura Gifford (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) and a season-high 12 saves from freshman goalie Jess Tadley (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West), Gwynedd-Mercy advanced to the 2012 CSAC Championship by knocking off top-seeded Marywood, 1-0, Friday evening in a semifinal matchup.

The fifth-seeded Griffins (11-8-2) will play at #2 Cabrini on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the title game and for a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Gifford was able to convert on a penalty kick in the 36th minute for the game's only goal. From there, Gwynedd withstood a 25-7 shot disadvantage including an 18-2 spot in the second half. Tadley, who would record her tenth shutout of the season, made 10 saves alone in the second stanza.

The goal was Gifford's 11th on the season and her third game-winning tally.

Gwynedd will me making their third appearance in the championship game (2001, 2003, 2008) and will look for their first conference crown since the 2001 season.
