Field Hockey Storms Its Way To CSAC Title Game

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy put itself in prime position for a title defense with a 9-2 semifinal win over Marywood Thursday evening. The Griffins will host Cabrini here on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Colonial States Athletic Conference Field Hockey Championship.

The top-seeded Griffins, who got three goals and an assist each from juniors Sarah Jackson (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) and Maria Karidas (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) respectively, will play the Cabrini in the championship game for the third-straight season and in Gwynedd Valley for the second year in a row.

Seniors Kelsey Deveney (Dalton, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) and Erin Gorenflo (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) along with junior Caitlin Donahue (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) also tallied for GM (14-5).

Gwynedd, who outshot the Pacers, 24-7, led 4-0 at the half. Donahue scored just 49 seconds into the second for a five-goal cushion.

Kathryn Morin and Julie Kowalski scored for fourth-seeded Marywood (4-12), who had seven penalty corners to the Griffin's 13.
