GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy welcomed Marywood Tuesday night, but the Pacers left the Griffin Complex with a 3-0 CSAC win. Game scores were 25-21, 25-17, and 25-13.
Junior
Michelle Carrieri (Warrington, Pa./Council Rock South) led GM with eight kills and four aces. Senior
Ariana Richards (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) added five kills, three digs, and ace and a block.
Jessica Lynn Swida registered a team-high seven put aways, 12 digs, and three aces.
The first set saw the teams battle neck-and-neck to 19-19, but the Pacers (13-9, 6-3 CSAC) would score four points in a row for their biggest lead and eventually take it, 25-21. In the second, Marywood pulled away from an 18-15 advantage, scoring six-straight points to go on and win, 25-17. Gwynedd fell behind early in the third, 11-4, and could not recover in the clinching set.
The Griffins (3-22, 2-7 CSAC) are now officially eliminated from playoff contention.
On Thursday, Gwynedd will host Senior Night when the Griffins take on Centenary at 7 p.m. The team will honor its three seniors in Richards,
Kelsey Craig (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) and
Kristen Gambone (East Norriton, Pa./Lansdale Catholic).
