GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy defeated Immaculata 5-0 on Thursday evening on Senior Night to stay in a three-way race for the #1 seed in the CSAC playoffs. Prior to the game, GMC Head Coach
Laura-Ann Lane and the team recognized its two seniors,
Kelsey Deveney (Dalton, Pa. / Lackawanna Trail) and
Erin Gorenflo (Plymouth Meeting, Pa. / Plymouth-Whitemarsh), for their four years of dedication with a special pregame ceremony.
Deveney led the Griffins (11-4, 4-1 CSAC) with two goals and two assists. Junior
Sarah Jackson (Sewell, N.J. / Washington Twp.) added two scores and a helper as GM won their 14th CSAC home game in a row.
The Griffins scored within the first minute of the game at the 48-second mark on a blast from Jackson with an assist by Deveney. Two minutes and twenty three seconds later, Deveney found the back of the cage for her first goal of the evening at the 2:11 mark.
The duo would connect again at the 6:35 mark in the first half when Deveney settled the ball on her stick and found a patient Jackson to hammer home her second goal on the night. Freshman
Katie O'Neill (Newtown, Pa. / Council Rock North) would add the fourth tally on the stanza with just under ten minutes remaining when Jackson played a ball through the crease area that O'Neill buried.
GM dominated play in the second half holding the Mighty Macs without a shot for the duration of play. Deveney would give the Griffins 5-0 lead with a minute and twenty five seconds remaining on an assist from junior
Caitlin Donahue (Huntingdon Valley, Pa. / Lower Moreland).
Sophomore goalie
Kelly Kruk (Phoenixville, Pa. / Methacton) recorded one save for her fourth shutout of the year. Her counterpart Patsy Murphy stopped fifteen shots for Immaculata.
GM outshout the Mighty Macs (1-13, 1-4 CSAC) 25-2 and held a 11-2 corner advantage.
Gwynedd returns to action on Saturday traveling to Marywood for a 12 p.m. start.
