GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy outlasted Keystone, 3-2, for a Colonial States Athletic Conference victory, capping a tri-match split on Saturday at the Griffin Complex. The Griffins fell in the day's first match to Penn State-Abington, 3-0.

The Lions would then defeat the Giants, 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-18), in the middle match.

Against Keystone, the Griffins had team season highs in kills (38) and attempts (119) in outlasting the Giants. Game scores were 22-25, 25-22, 25-17, 20-25, and 15-7.

In a match that was close from the start, no team led by more than four points throughout. After losing the first set, GM won the next two but lost the fourth. In the deciding fifth set, the Griffins took control of an 8-7 match as senior Kelsey Craig (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) served up seven-straight points to close it out.

Statistically, she led all attackers with 10 kills, reaching double digits for the second time this season. Senior Ariana Richards (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) added seven kills, four aces, and three blocks (two solo). Senior Kristen Gambone (East Norriton, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) just missed a double-double, totaling 31 assists and nine digs.

For the Giants (3-20, 2-6 CSAC), Katie Scheuch registered seven kills. Teammate Carol Mosier had 13 assists and 10 digs.

In the day's first match against Penn State-Abington, the Griffins got off just 14 kills on 49 attempts with nine hitting errors. Junior Michelle Carrieri (Warrington, Pa./Council Rock South) had four kills.

Gwynedd-Mercy (3-19, 2-5 CSAC) remains alive in the playoff chase but will need to win out and get some help along the way. The journey continues on Wednesday when they play at Immaculata at 7 p.m.
