Gwynedd-Mercy 2, Cabrini 1
BOX SCORE
RADNOR, PA. – Two goals in the first half and a stellar second-half defensive effort allowed Gwynedd-Mercy to win 2-1 at Cabrini on Saturday in a Colonial States Athletic Conference game.
Goals from junior
Sarah Jackson (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) and freshman
Katie O'Neill (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) was the difference as the Griffin defense did not yield despite 19 Cavalier penalty corners, including 10 in the second stanza alone.
Things were quiet until the 12th minute before Jackson banged in her own rebound for her team-leading ninth goal of the season. Later in the 22nd minute, O'Neill made it 2-0 as she converted on a penalty corner with an assist from senior
Erin Gorenflo (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh).
Cabrini (6-7, 4-1 CSAC) cut into the lead at the 53:12 mark on a goal from Karlie Gruccio.
The Griffin defense came up big, as sophomore goalie
Kelly Kruk (Phoenixville, Pa./Methacton) made five of her six saves in the period.
With the win, Gwynedd-Mercy (10-4, 3-1 CSAC) stays in the hunt for the top playoff seed.
