GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy took two from visiting Notre Dame as the Griffins opened up CSAC play Friday afternoon. The Griffins won, 8-0, in five innings in game one, and took the second, 9-3.

Game one saw Maggie McSpadden (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) toss a three-hit shutout, as the sophomore struck out five and did not allow a walk. Freshman Maria Seserko (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) sparked the offense, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, and RBI and a run scored while freshman Stephanie Farrar (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) added a two-run home run.

Seserko's RBI double in the second was later followed by a big two-run triple off the bat of sophomore Kelsey Craig (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) for a 3-0 lead.

In the third after leadoff double, Farrar sent a ball to right center that went to the fence. She beat the throw home for an inside-the-park homer to put GM up 5-0.

The Griffins took advantage of three Gator errors in the fourth to plate three runs for an 8-0 lead.

Kirsten Smulovitz, who suffered the loss, giving up five earned runs on six hits, also had two of the team's three hits.

In game two, Gwynedd (4-6, 2-0 CSAC) raced out to a 7-0 lead after two innings.

Seserko again had two hits with an RBI and freshman Renee Stiteler (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI double.

Senior Heather Morgan (Audubon, N.J./Audubon) picked up the win in her first start of the season, allowing one earned run on six hits while fanning three.

GM will host Moravian in a non-league single game tomorrow starting at 11 a.m.
