GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Griffins celebrated their four seniors but it was Immaculata who crashed the party in a 3-1 CSAC defeat Tuesday night. Game scores were 25-18, 25-22, 12-25, and 25-13.
The loss drops the Griffins to 7-16 and 3-7 in CSAC play. The Mighty Macs improve to 11-9 and 5-4 and remain alive in the playoff hunt.
Gwynedd churned out 33 total kills, its fouth-highest output this season. 13 of those were from senior
Rachel Lambert (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) which were a match high.. Seniors
Aileen Reilly (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) had a team-high 11 digs and
Maria Stilwell (Swarthmore, Pa./Ridley) served up five aces.
Kristina Schneider (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) chipped in two kills and an ace.
Kathleen Haefner captained the Mighty Macs with 30 assists and scooped out 14 digs.Tamara Dabady totaled seven kills and three aces.
IU broke open a 14-14 tie in set #1, with a five-point rally. In the second, the Mighty Macs got out in front early and held off the Griffins. Gwynedd came to life in the third set, racing out to an 11-5 lead. Up 20-12, Stilwell served up five-straight points to force a fourth set. In that fourth set, IU notched the first five points but GM rallied to tie it at 7-7, but Immaculata outscored the Griffins 10-3 and were able to pull away for good.
Prior to the match the team and coaching staff honored Stilwell, Schneider, Lambert, and Reilly and their families.
The Griffins will play at Rosemont on Thursday night in CSAC action starting at 7 p.m.
