SWARTHMORE, PA. -- Sophomore Maria Karidas (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) scored two goals to help Gwynedd-Mercy to its seventh win in a row in a 3-2 non-league win at Swarthmore on Tuesday afternoon.

Freshman Brooke Stretch (Havertown, Pa./Archbishop Prendergast) added another tally as the Griffins improve to 10-3 on the year.

Karidas put GM up 1-0 seven minutes into the game with an assist from junior Kelsey Deveney (Dalton, Pa./Lackawanna Trail). The Garnet answered late in the half on a goal from Nia Jones as the teams were locked at 1-1 at intermission.

The Griffins opened the second half with an early unassisted tally from Stretch. Karidas would add her second on the day with 10 minutes left in the game for an apparent insurance goal, but Swarthmore (4-7) would find the back of the net in the 62nd minute to make it a one-goal contest.

Freshman goalie Kelly Kruk (Phoenixville, Pa./Methacton) and the defense clamped down in the game's final minutes, withstanding three Swat penalty corners in the last two minutes of regulation to help seal the win.

Kruk finished with four saves. Swarthmore keeper Gabriella Capone recorded 13. Gwynedd outshot the Garnet, 22-10.

The Griffins entertain Widener in non-conference action on Thursday in a 4:30 p.m. start.
