Box Score
RADNOR, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy suffered a 3-1 defeat to the hands of Cabrini in the championship game of the 2010 Colonial States Athletic Conference Field Hockey Tournament Saturday afternoon.
Cabrini ran out to a 2-0 lead in the first half and went up 3-0 in the second before Gwynedd got on the board. Freshman Ashlee Lippincott (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) netted her second goal of the year with an assist from Kristy Kelleher (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) in the 60th minute.
Gwynedd had their scoring chances, including a great look from freshman Charlsie Moore (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) with a one-time shot just inside the circle before halftime. Her shot was thwarted by Cabrini's Caitlin Donohue as she made one of her five stops on the day.
GM Goalie Christa Breidenstein (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) suffered her first loss of the season, as the freshman tried to keep things close by notching a season-high 10 saves.
Lauren Alessi made it 1-0 in the 14th minute as she put home a ball the deflected off Breidenstein right to Alessi's stick. Just 10 minutes later, Stephanie Campanaro converted on a penalty stroke to make it 2-0.
The teams each had seven penalty corners apiece while Cabrini outshot Gwynedd, 14-8.
The Cavaliers' Courtney Davis was named MVP of the game.
The Griffins, who were making their first appearance in the title game since 1999, now await a possible ECAC bid to be determined on Monday. Check back to the GMC website for more details.
