Shannon Gillespie Hemmerle enters her fourth season as the assistant men’s and women’s track & field coach at Gwynedd Mercy University.
Hemmerle helped coach two-time All-American Chante Moore in the 200m and 400m in 2016-17 indoor season. She also helped coach the 2015-16 Griffin Women’s Track and Field Team to a second place finish at the inaugural CSAC Outdoor Championships, and the male MVP of the meet. She also helped coach several athletes who qualified for the ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Prior to joining the coaching staff at Gwynedd Mercy, Hemmerle coached 15 combined Cross Country and Track seasons as an assistant coach at Red Bank Catholic High School, and one season at St. John Vianney High School, both in New Jersey. During this time, Hemmerle guided athletes to an Indoor National Championship in the 4x800 relay, Top 5 “HS All-Time” in the 4x800 and DMR both indoor and outdoor, several All-Americans, NJ All Group XC Team Champions in 2014, one State team title in Track, three State team titles in XC, and several individual State, Conference and County Champions.
She is a 2009 graduate of Hawaii Pacific University. Prior to, she attended and ran for Loyola University in Maryland, where she was a member of their Division I XC and Track programs. Hemmerle has had a lifetime involvement in the sports of XC and track and field and has individual honors such as a member of the AAU National Championship XC team in 1998 and runner-up in 1999, High School State Group Top 10 in XC, Junior National Qualifier, and All-American at 1 mile, 3k, 5k and 10k racewalk. .
Hemmerle currently works at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine as a Fitness Specialist and continues to compete in both road races and triathlons.
