Gwynedd Mercy University Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach Meghan Sacks is pleased to welcome Reilly Owens ’23 as the latest addition to the Griffins’ coaching staff. One of the program’s most decorated student-athletes, Owens was a three-time (1st Team: 2021, 2nd Team: 2022, 2023) All-Atlantic East Conference (AEC) performer while posting Top-10 All-Time in saves (2nd, 525), saves per game (2nd, 10.94), save percentage (4th, .459 SV%), wins (5th, 13), ground balls (6th, 159), and goals-against average (7th, 13.69 GAA). Coach Owens will oversee the training of the Gwynedd Mercy University goalkeepers. Gwynedd Mercy University stands as Coach Owens’ first intercollegiate position as she previously served as an assistant at her high school alma mater, Pottstown High School (Feb. 2024 – May 2024). There, she helped the coaching staff evaluate player performance while providing instruction on individual and team skills, including shooting, passing, and defensive techniques. Owens also served as a summer camp counselor with the Borough of Pottstown (2019 – Present).
Owens was an All-AEC First Team goalkeeper as a sophomore (2021). That year, she led the conference in saves per game (1st, 11.0) and ranked third in SV% (3rd, .433) while playing every minute (480:00) of every contest (8 games played – 8 games started). During an All-AEC Second Team 2022, Owens surpassed both the 200 and 300-career save plateaus, further cementing her position among the Griffins' top net minders while recording a league-high 214 saves (1st) on the strength of a 14.03 GAA and a .476 SV%. She led the conference in saves for a third straight year in 2023, recording 174 to rank second all-time at Gwynedd Mercy University (815, Timony ’11) with 525 stops (2nd). Owens also topped the AEC in ground balls (67), ground balls per game (3.94), and saves per game (10.24). On April 19, 2023, at Centenary University (N.J.), Owens would have a game to remember as she reached 500 career saves with her second save of the game and recorded her first collegiate points with a goal (16-0, 1:50 3QTR) and an assist (15-0, 9:35 3QTR) versus the Cyclones.
Owens graduated cum laude with three appearances on the Gwynedd Mercy University Athletics Academic Elite (Fall 2021, Spring 2022, Fall 2022), two appearances on the AEC All-Academic Team (2020-2021, 2021-2022), a 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District award, and induction to Chi Alpha Sigma; the National College Athlete Honor Society (2023). She earned her bachelor’s of science in early childhood education and special education from Gwynedd Mercy University in 2023.
Professionally, Owens functions as a special education teacher for a local school district (Aug. 2023 – Present).
