Biography
JUNIOR (2023-2024) – Cruz was named the 2024 Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men’s Track Athlete of the Year after a brilliant performance at the league’s championship meet (May 3 & 4). He anchored the Griffins’ relay team that placed second in the 4x400-Meter (2nd, 3:35.49, 8 points, 2nd Team) and first in the 4x100-Meter (1st, 43.35*, 10 points, 1st Team) with a conference championship meet record time of 43.35. Cruz also went on to garner a First Team laurel in the 200-Meter (1st, 22.28, 10 points, 1st Team) and Second Team laurels in the 100-Meter (2nd, 11.15, 8 points, 2nd Team) and 400-Meter (2nd, 50.64, 8 points, 2nd Team) to total 36 of the Red and Gold’s 59 points (3rd of 5, 59 points). Cruz’s AEC Championship times in the 100-Meter Preliminary (4th, 11.13), 200-Meter, and 400-Meter were his personal records for the season as he also competed at the Muhlenberg Invitational (Apr. 6), Billy Butler Invitational (Apr. 13), Paul Donahue Invitational (Apr. 19 & 20), and the Blue Jay Tune Up (Apr. 26 & 27).
SENIOR (2024-2025) – Cruz was named the 2025 AEC Men's Track Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season after earning All-AEC First Team recognition in the 100-Meter (1st, 11.01, 10 points), 200-Meter (1st, 22.2, 10), and 400-Meter (1st, 49.19, 10), as well as an All-AEC Second Team honor as a member of the 4x400-Meter Relay (2nd, 3:33.56, 8). Cruz also helped the 4x100-Meter Relay (3rd, 43.77, 6) to a third-place finish at the AEC Men’s Track and Field Championships (May 3 & 4). His preliminary 200-Meter run of 21.79 and his 400-Meter were recognized as meet records. During the season, Cruz established personal records in the 60-Meter (5th, 7.21 @ the Moravian University Invitational on Jan. 18), 100-Meter (3rd, 10.84 @ Stockton College Invitational on Mar. 22), 200-Meter (Prelim.: 1st, 21.79 @ AEC Track & Field Championships on May 3 7 4), 400-Meter (1st, 49.11 @ Osprey Open on Mar. 28 & 29), 800-Meter (27th, 2:16.16 @ Keogh Invitational on Feb. 21 & 22), and Long Jump (2nd, 6.21 @ Keogh Invitational on Feb. 21 & 22), while appearing on all five AEC Men’s Track and Field Weekly Reports. He was named to the Weekly Honor Roll on March 24 and April 6, while garnering the AEC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week on March 31, April 13, and April 21.
