Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Christensen's Three Point Perforamcnce Sparks Second Half Surge

Lancaster, Pa. – (9/14/2026) – The Gwynedd Mercy University (1-4) men's soccer team showed resilience with a pair of second-half goals Monday afternoon, but an early deficit proved too much to overcome in a 4-2 defeat to Lancaster Bible College (1-4). Sophomore goalkeeper Ethan Zimmerman (Myerstown, Pa.) started his first game of the 2026 season with seven saves in the loss (0-1). Freshman goalkeeper Kevin Harter (Springfield, N.J.) played his first collegiate contest finishing the final 9:36 without allowing a goal.

Griffin Highlights:
  • The Chargers added goals in the 17th, 33rd, and 35th minutes, but the Griffins continued to push offensively before halftime. Junior midfielder Gunnar Christensen (Finksburg, Md.) put a shot on goal at 32:50, forcing a save from the Chargers goalkeeper. Gwynedd Mercy then generated a pair of late corner kicks, while junior defender Dominic Lodise (Bensalem, Pa.) put an attempt on frame in the 44th minute.
  • The Griffins came out of halftime with renewed energy and needed less than two minutes to find the back of the net. At 46:54, Christensen scored his second goal of the season, cutting the Lancaster Bible advantage to 3-1 and giving Gwynedd Mercy early momentum in the second period.
  • Senior forward Devario Gboho (Philadelphia, Pa.) provided another dangerous opportunity in the 61st minute, putting a shot on target that required a save. Lancaster Bible College eventually restored its three-goal advantage at 65:13, but the Griffins again responded rather than allowing the game to get away from them.
  • At 71:03, sophomore forward Mava Mboko Celestin (Erie, Pa.) scored his first goal of the season off a feed from Christensen, trimming the deficit to 4-2. The play completed an impressive three-point afternoon for Christensen, who contributed both Gwynedd Mercy goals with a goal and an assist.
  • The Griffins continued to search for another goal down the stretch. Freshman defender Cillian Berkery (Philadelphia, Pa.) sent an attempt wide in the 75th minute, Mboko Celestin followed with another shot in the 79th, and freshman midfielder Jordan Gross (Pittsgrove, N.J.) produced an opportunity in the 85th. Gwynedd Mercy also earned two additional corner kicks during the final 13 minutes as the Griffins continued applying pressure through the final whistle.
Gwynedd Mercy is back at home on Wednesday, September 16, when the team hosts Cairn University with a scheduled 4:00 p.m. kickoff.
