Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (4/1/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy University (9-13) snapped their recent four-game slide with this afternoon's 7-4 triumph over Mount Saint Mary College (N.Y.) (8-10-1). The Griffins negated a first at-bat run from the Knights when senior left fielder
Cooper Root (Runnemede, N.J.) scampered home on a two-out wild pitch; 1-1. The Red and Gold used a strong second inning from

sophomore
Patrick Talley (Collingswood, N.J.) to inspire a three-run at-bat that propelled them to victory. Late insurance tallies came courtesy of seventh-inning; a two-out walk to senior first baseman
Ricky Templeton (West Deptford, N.J.), a single from junior third baseman
A.J. Johnson (Lavallette, N.J.), and a two-run double from freshman catcher
Gabe Tomei (Manahawkin, N.J.) did the trick. Talley earned the win (3-1) with four innings of strong relief as he allowed one earned run on four hits and a walk, while striking out six. Sophomore
Michael Inglisa (Delran, N.J.) collected the save (2) with the last three outs of the affair.
Griffins Highlights
- Root doubled in his first at-bat, moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt, and hustled home on a wild pitch; 1-1
- After Talley struck out the side in the second inning, a one-out singles from Johnson and Tomei set the table for a wild pitch (2-1) and a single from junior right fielder Jon Cimino (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) (3-1), and a walk to senior center fielder Sam Junker (Ambler, Pa.) to bring home two more Griffins; 4-1.
- Gwynedd Mercy University added another run in the fourth inning on a Root ground out, 5-3, but it was the two runs in the seventh inning that truly gave them the headway to close out the Knights.
- Root finished 4-for-5 with a run and a run-batted-in (RBI); he recorded his 100th hit with single to left field in the bottom of the sixth.
- Johnson (2-for-3) and Tomei (3-for-4) also recorded multiple hits in the affair.
- Talley's quality relief appearance was followed by a strong outing from junior pitcher Zachary Freas (Mickleton, N.J.); he held the Knights scoreless over 3.0 innings as he allowed only one base runner (BB) while striking out five.
Gwynedd Mercy University resumes their Atlantic East Conference (AEC) schedule on Friday, April 4, when they host Neumann University for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
